ABOUT ME

Committed to Education

I am currently a Senior at Santa Clara University, on track to graduate in June 2019 with a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Biology. Since a young age, I have had a vested interest in the natural sciences, and this has guided my educational pursuits thus far.

I was born and raised in Boise, Idaho - a beautiful and booming city that I am pleased to call home. Here, I developed passions for the great outdoors, skiing, college football, and fry sauce. Ideally, I would like to continue living in the Pacific Northwest in the near future.

I have a profound desire for learning, and I am always eager to try new things. This is especially true with regards to travel - I believe immersing oneself in new cultures, ways of living, and modes of thought are a terrific way to broaden one's horizons.

PROFESSIONAL OBJECTIVE

The Spice of Life

I hope to one day be a practicing physician. After spending some considerable time shadowing doctors in this past year, I can confirm that this is the sort of career I am suited for. I would much prefer a job where no two days are the same, where every patient brings a unique situation to the table, and where I can see the improvements in their health over time. I can say with certainty that I would enjoy the diversity and the unpredictability that comes with day to day work as a doctor. I would much prefer this line of work compared to a traditional desk job. I am someone who appreciates variety.

I plan on applying to medical school the summer after graduation. During the ensuing gap year, I will be seeking certification in practices of the medical field, such as training in EMT services and phlebotomy.

MY TIME ABROAD

In the fall of 2017, I studied abroad through DIS in Copenhagen in a program that focused heavily on medical work designed for undergraduate students. This experience was culturally enriching, and personally transformative in the way that I view my current career path.

MEDICAL PRACTICE AND POLICY

Instructed by a Neurologist and an Ophthalmologist at the Roskildehospitalet in Roskilde, Denmark, this course was designed to get students out of the classroom and into the professional medical atmosphere. Through this course, we learned how to perform an accurate diagnosis, and took part in real cases with real patients, whom we often got to meet and interact with. We also learned other important skills, such as IV and catheter insertion, CPR, and general bedside manner. This course is invaluable to me, and excites my interest in my future career as a physician.

FIELD TRIP!

The Medical Practice and Policy program also included several trips to various hospitals throughout Denmark, Sweden and Estonia to observe how the medical policies vary between each of these countries. From small independent clinics, to large hospitals, to the Karolinska institute in Stockholm, these field studies were an eye opening experience into the variety of professions that exist within the overarching medical field.
